Founded in 1909 as the Fourth District Agricultural School, the University of Arkansas at Monticello (ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½M) is one of the region’s few remaining open admissions universities. Serving southeast Arkansas, ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½M offers 30 baccalaureate and six master’s degree programs. Additionally, the university offers seven two-year associate degrees and 15 technical certificates through its Colleges of Technology in Crossett and McGehee.
ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½M has established a reputation for academic excellence in areas such as forest resources, nursing, teacher education, pre-medicine, health-related sciences, business and social science. The university is home to the Arkansas Forest Resources Center and one of the South’s top exercise physiology facilities. In recent years, ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½M has added new opportunities to its curriculum, including popular programs in social work and criminal justice, a fast-track master’s degree program to place more teachers in the classroom, and online master’s degree programs in coaching, education, education leadership and creative writing.
